The importance of education cannot be understated in the contemporary world. Every person requires education to develop skills needed for productivity. Apprenticeship is the oldest form of education known to humans. During the medieval period, young people learned about trade and other life essentials by working with adults (Heywood, 2018). As years progressed, academic training replaced apprenticeship. Understandably, public education entails formal training in which tutors follow a designed curriculum to teach students skills. For apprenticeship, learners undergo informal training and acquire on-job skills (Heywood, 2018). The two techniques of education help people gain skills for professional and career development, and thus enhanced employability. Additionally, it enabled people to specialize in a given field, which consequently leads to improved efficiency and productivity.

However, for public education, the focus is on classroom work. Illustratively, it entails teaching people a variety of life and professional skills. The length required to gain formal training through public education is not only longer but also costlier than apprenticeship establishment (Heywood, 2018). Moreover, the skills taught in public education are non-specific, and thus families, society, and children undergoing this form of education have to undergo additional training during the internship to acquire work experience. The extra training lengthens the unemployment periods of learners before their first jobs.

Public education has introduced inequalities in the present-day world. Understandably, during the initiation of public education, public education was confined to a few people. Over the years, public education for all became formalized and ingrained in communities, which has helped to promote gender and income equality (Heywood, 2018). Consequently, many people, including women, have developed literacy, and therefore they have helped to bridge the employment gap that was previously associated with apprenticeship. It is also vital to explain that public education helps to reinforce existing social structures, which promotes effectiveness in institutions (Heywood, 2018). This technique also equips people with craft skills, which are appropriate for their estate. Public education also helps people to be specialized, trained, and civilized in society. Therefore, it promotes sociopolitical accountability and responsibility in the world.

In general, public education is despite its high cost, has more benefits than an apprenticeship. It enables children or learners to develop all-round skills that enable them to survive in sociopolitical and economic settings. It enables promotes institutional accountability, promote civilization, and eliminates gender and income gaps. However, stakeholders should strive to reduce the high cost of public education to ensure that many people benefit from it. Also, the study duration should be reduced to guarantee faster integration of people into the workforce for productivity.
