Population Pyramid Analysis

What county are you researching? Where is this county? What is this county known for?

Population Pyramid Analysis

The county that I am researching is Queens County. It is located in New York City and serves as one of the largest Boroughs. Queens County borders Brooklyn borough located at the furthest western end and Nassau County in the East. Being one of the largest boroughs, Queens County shares most of its water borders with Staten Island, Bronx, and Manhattan (United, 2018).

Queens County is known for having the second-largest population in New York City. Additionally, it is one of the linguistically and ethnically diverse boroughs within the U.S. Unlike other boroughs such as Brooklyn and Bronx, Queens County is known for not having a reputation relating to toughness, arrogance, and brashness (United, 2018). Since it is an outer borough, most people residing in Queens County suffer in reputation compared to their neighbors located in the central and affluent suburbs that are developed (United, 2018). The reality of life in Queens County is probably not so good since it is widely inhabited by immigrants who mainly speak foreign languages. Most of these immigrants are from the Philippines, China, Afghanistan, Venezuela, and Russia, among other countries (United, 2018). Lastly, Queens County is also known for having the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park: one of the remnants during the 1964 World Fair and the Arthur Ashe Stadium believed to be home to the U.S Open Tennis Tournament (United, 2018).

What are the Implications of these population Characteristics? What are the implications of these population characteristics? In other words, how do these characteristics shape the community? What inferences can you make about the population that lives there?

Understanding the population characteristics of a given county is crucial since it helps in planning and allocating the necessary resources for each group. Without understanding the population characteristics, it may be difficult to plan and learn of the deficient areas that need improvement. Queen’s county is one of the boroughs located at the outer pars of New York. As a result, its population characteristics may change over time. Some of the population characteristics that can play an influential role in shaping the characteristics of Queens County include population density, age structure, and population size. Since Queen’s has a higher population of females than males, this will influence the type of healthcare services delivered. Additionally, the large population of the old population dictates that more nursing homes are established, which can generally contribute to growth. One of the main inferences that I can draw from the population relates to the existing inequalities between the two large populations: whites and blacks. Since the whites living in Queens County have higher education attainment, this means that they have more access to opportunities than the blacks and other races.
