BUSINESS: GRUBZ’S BUSINESS PLAN

As a first-generation immigrant, the expectations from my family for me to succeed is high. One of my cousins was about to graduate from the UIC School of Dentistry, but unlike the accomplishments that he managed to attain, I found myself in a relationship that was falling apart and I was about to give birth to a premature baby. All this was happening when I was a 23-year-old student. This situation significantly disappointed my family, and made me feel like a failure. [ “Write my essay for me?” Get help here.]But it turned out to be the best experience I could have asked for. Aside from the joy of motherhood, having a baby showed me that I am capable of things that I never dreamed possible.

As a 23-year-old college student with a baby on the way, I was the ultimate disappointment to my family. This was the idea of a nightmare for my parents, and I was responsible for this. At least that’s what we all thought when I announced the news, and now they are proud of me for raising my baby, who is now 2 years old and the source of limitless happiness. However, in the beginning, the situation was strenuous. While my cousins were graduating from the UIC Dental School and finishing engineering degrees, I found myself in the NICU with a baby born nearly two months early. It was a crash-course on life that taught me a level of independence that I never imagined I’d be capable of, and it steered me in the right direction.

After spending countless days in the hospital, I consulted with every doctor, nurse and anyone willing to listen and answer my questions. One of the doctors I spoke with described his amazing experience in the field of science. In the 1980s, he was a part of the team at the University of Illinois that was one of the first to test surfactant – an injection that has since saved millions of premature babies that would have otherwise died. I started researching everything on the subject of neonatal development. Many books, research papers and online articles later, I knew that science is what I want to study. Unfortunately, I was not yet ready to begin my studies.

While raising my child, I learned to focus on what I want to achieve. I have not only shown my family that I am a highly capable and responsible person, but I also showed that to myself. The past couple years raising my child has been so important for me to learn to focus on what I want. I have completed much research on what I want to do for a profession, and I am certain that biology is the way for me to go. Over the years, I felt relatively indecisive about what I want to do, but for since that time in the hospital, I have become certain that biology is what sparks my interest the most, and it is in this field where I will be able to contribute the most to society. Now that my child is 2 years old, I am ready to dedicate much of my time to studying. I know that the work will be challenging, but I have been ready for a while now.

I am more confident now than I have ever been, and I am so proud of the child that I have raised while living on my own, working and attending school. I am thrilled that my relationships with my family is stronger than ever. My grandparents have seen the tremendous job I have done overcoming my challenges in order to raise a healthy child and create a life for myself that is fulfilling and full of joy. But I know that in order for me to create the absolute best life for my child, and for myself, I need to attain my potential and to apply myself to biology studies so that I can make progress in neonatal studies, just like the doctor with whom I spoke in the hospital had done. As the mother of a premature baby, the topic is very close to me, and given the amount of studying on the topic I have already done, I both have a large knowledge base, and the desire to learn more at your school.
