The global community is made up of diverse cultures. This means that communities have different cultures and the ways of manifesting their cultural inclinations. Culture refers to a way of life of a given community (National Association of Social Workers, 2015, p. 4). It could also be considered the total sum of all beliefs, actions, and values practiced by a group of individuals. Cultural competence refers to the mastery of the values and the beliefs by the individuals within a given community. Cultural competence is the awareness of what a given culture entails and the practice of appropriate actions in a given cultural group. It eases the communication and comprehension processes in which a community is engaged. For instance, when an Indian dresses and speaks like an Indian in America, those around them can quickly discern their heritages and origins. Cultural competence further preempts identity confusion. Identity is a significant social element in the community. To oversee responsibilities in an efficient manner, people need to be aware of their beliefs. The beliefs, in turn, guide their actions and prevent the conflict that arises when one engages a principle to which they are not subscribed.

Subsequently, behavior differs from one culture to the next. This is because individuals tend to promote behavior that suffices their desires. Whereas a given action may be considered moral is a given cultural community, it may constitute an act of immorality in another cultural community. One can discern the culture of the individuals around them by observing the manner in which they talk, sit, stand, and even laugh. Culture further encompasses the values that are promoted within a cultural community Values are the moral metrics, which determine the best characteristics to be engaged by members of a given community. It defines what ought to be done and what to be avoided in a cultural setting. Values are passed on from one generation to the other. Many times, a child will integrate the values promoted by their parents and surrounding parties. The next cultural component is belief, and it influences the behavior and values in a given cultural community. Belief, as an element of culture, answers the question of the truth behind given values and actions engaged in the community. It is a collective way of thinking that stems from the mind. Therefore, it could also be termed as what the community holds to be true and is promoted as the only metric used to determine the validity of a given action. Before one engages in any given duty, they first need to assess their beliefs. The final cultural component entails a worldview (Link & Ramanathan, 2011, p. 31). Worldview is a term that is used to determine how individuals interpret their realities. Every culture interprets their realities differently. A worldview includes the ideas propagated on the meaning of life and the metrics of evil in the society.

Conclusively, I am a subscriber of the European culture, and that means that my background culture emphasizes the existence of God. Therefore, when engaging other individuals, there is always a need to determine whether my actions are aligned with the Christian beliefs. In addition, my culture further promotes directness. When engaging each other, we are often compelled to speak our minds and forward our opinions. Above all values, unity, and cooperation comprise the biggest metrics in our community.
